The temperatures are rising, the feet are starting to swell, and clothes are getting uncomfortable. It means one thing. Summer is almost upon us! For us men this poses the annual problem of what to put on the feet. It’s a no brainer when it comes to clothes. A T-shirt or short sleeved cotton shirt. Shorts for the lower half. Loose boxers to stop the, erm, upper legs from “glowing”, but what to put on the feet? It’s a tricky one that’s for sure.
A look in the back of the wardrobe is unlikely to provide a summer shoe Narnia, but most likely last year’s sandals and flip-flops looking somewhat tired and dishevelled. Even the dog would think twice before chewing them.
Yes, It’s time to splash out on new mens summer shoes and part with some hard earned beer money and invest in new footwear, but what are the best shoes to choose?. What men’s summer shoes will last the longest? Which shoes will still look good next year and not result in another shoe dilemma?
Well, not unsurprisingly, the best option will be men’s summer shoes which go with all summer attire, will make ladies swoon at the sight of them, will not require any cleaning or polishing, and will resist the corrosive effects of kebab juice and beer. Oh, and will cost approximately nothing to buy. It’s a tall order that’s for sure.
Provided that you are not looking to go further off-road than the nearest tree, there is actually a solution and it comes from Germany. There are German craftsmen who have dedicated their lives to this dilemma for close to 230 years. The secret has been passed down from father to son, and survives to this day. However I’m about to blow the whistle and spoil this 230 year secret, for why should they have all the comfort, fun, and coolness?
Yes lads – its brown leather sandals. Birkenstock have been producing these for over two centuries, which has made them rather good at it. These beauties can cope with a messy Oktoberfest and copious beer and sausages fat spillages, (not quite kebab juice, but close enough), they impress German women, but if you lose the socks they will impress British women just as much, and they will last for years and never go out of date.
Whilst they will take a little maintenance to get the maximum life, they are pretty robust creations which can withstand a fair amount of neglect and can still be brushed up for that extra special occasion and look as good as they day (after) they were bought.
They go with everything, they last for years, they are classics which never seem to date, and they look great with pretty much everything. They can even make white trousers look good (Don’t attempt this without a sun tan)
Oh, and never, never, ever be tempted to wear them with socks.
So, with a pair of Birkenstock brown leather sandals all of your prayers have been answered, and what’s more they don’t cost a packet either with some great discounts available.
